2026 NEW YEAR FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE METABOLIC DETOXIFICATION PROGRAM

Current research shows that most people are suffering from toxic burden to some degree. Thousands of chemicals are now present in most people and there is no sign that these numbers are going to decrease. The body has mechanisms for detoxifying chemicals such as those found in heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, plastics, industrial pollutants, medications, food and cosmetic additives, etc.. The most effective way to address this growing problem is through a metabolic detoxification program.
In Functional Medicine, a metabolic detoxification program is a science-based program that is designed to improve the function of the liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, and digestive system. These are the organ systems that take the chemicals that enter the body and eliminate them to prevent cell damage and disease. This program not only looks at nutrition, but also lifestyle and should be guided by a health practitioner.
Most people experience benefits in this short term (usually about 3 weeks) program to include reduced fatigue, improved digestion, better skin health, a stronger immune system, less brain fog, reduced inflammation and usually some weight loss. In addition, because most people feel lighter and healthier, some and/or many of the changes are continued, so this is a building block for long term health.
Depending on the individual, the ability to properly eliminate these chemicals varies greatly. The good news is that we can improve the body's already existing detoxification pathways and more efficiently clear them out of our body. It is important to have a foundational knowledge of how we can achieve this.

Please join us for 3-part educational series on how to help the body rid itself of pollutants and chemicals more efficiently. The dates are 1/20/26, 1/27/26 and 2/3/26 at 12 PM. Each will last 30 minutes with an additional 15 minutes for questions and discussion. You can choose remotely with Zoom or in person at the office in the conference room. It will also be recorded for later viewing if those times/dates are not convenient. Just email your preference and if choosing Zoom I will send you the link.
This program also allows for those who want to actively work on improving the detoxification pathways of the body through a personalized nutrition and lifestyle program. This is a great time of year for this type of program. However, there is no one program that fits all as you will learn through the educational series. If you would like to not only learn about how to properly help your body with detoxification, but also do a Functional Medicine program, please contact the office. Here is a brief explanation of the program:

Functional Medicine Detoxification Program
1.This program is designed for the individual. Therefore, medical history, laboratory results and other diagnostics will be reviewed prior to starting the program.
2. This program typically involves a modified Mediterranean elimination diet. The idea is to take out foods that are typically inflammatory or difficult to digest first and foremost. The food plan itself is highly nutritious and specific for the needs of the individual. A medical food, which is a bioavailable powdered vitamin/mineral formula designed for specific clinical outcome (such as improving phase II liver detoxification) is often added.
3. Rest is important. The organs are resting because they are not taking out so much "trash." and are allowed to perform necessary bodily functions without as much stress. Stress management is incorporated to further allow for efficiency of the body to absorb the highly nutritious foods. Unlike detox cleanses and flushes, this program focuses on adding in foods that are healing.

4. The program lasts approximately 3 weeks. The cost is $150.00 plus the medical food. Those with insurance benefits may have much of the cost of the program covered.
5. It is strongly recommended that one follows all the steps for preparation for the program, such as cutting back on caffeine, creating food lists with the recommended foods, do some shopping and food prep in advance and keeping the food and lifestyle log.
6. Individuals will receive plenty of informational material, online food log journal and support from Dr. Griswold.
7. This program is typically given by a practitioner who stays in contact with the patient during the program. Dr. Griswold has been offering this program for over 25 years and has updated it with the current science and knowledge from Functional Medicine.
In short, the program involves flooding the body with the best possible nutrition for the individual, while giving the cells rest and opportunity to use the nutrients and heal. The foods in the food plan are targeted to the 3 main areas in the body that detoxify chemicals (2 in the liver and 1 in the GI tract). Other recommendations for detoxification are discussed. For example, our brains "detoxify" while we sleep, so restorative sleep is important!

One last note! It is very important to understand that you cannot flush or detox the body. Instead, you need to support the systems that do the detoxification such as the liver, GI tract and other organs of the body. The consequence of poor detoxification of the body can be associated with many conditions such as fatty liver, breast cancer, autoimmune disease, chronic inflammation and allergies. It is very important for women to understand how the body detoxifies estrogen so that it goes down pathways that do not lead to cell damage or even cancer.
