   WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE AND AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

PRIOR TO INITIAL APPOINTMENT:

 -Submit intake forms.  Intake forms will be sent to you through the Simple Practice patient portal..  These forms can be filled out online or downloaded and dropped off at office.

-Submit copies of recent and pertinent lab reports, diagnostic testing and Physician office visits.

 

Please note that this may take some time, but is worth all the valuable information that will help Dr. Griswold best help you on your health journey Once received, Dr. Griswold will review the information and determine the complexity and potential extent of care that may be needed.  Dr. Griswold will contact you and briefly go over the care and cost that is appropriate for your case based on complexity.  (See pricing for the 3 levels of complexity)  

 

Doing this “homework” before the first appointment, can save both time and money and is recommended.  However, if you are interested in a different course of care, please note that Functional Medicine is personalzoied medicine and your concerns can be discussed during the free consultation.  Please note that there are  options for HIPPA compliant telehealth services as well.

 

Once your course of care has been agreed upon,  Dr. Griswold will prepare for the first visit.  Dr. Griswold will prepare the Functional Medicine timeline and matrix.   These are tools unique to Functional Medicine that help put your information into a systems biology matrix and timeline.  This methodology helps to organize conditions, that often are multisystem and complex.  This is also helpful in identifying potential root causes of conditions and developing a personalized plan.

YOUR FIRST FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE VISIT:

Dr. Griswold will:

  • Review your past and present medical conditions, surgeries, medications, supplements, family health history, laboratory and diagnostic reports.

  • Review lifestyle factors such as sleep quality, movement, stress and diet to determine what, if any changes should be made.

  • Dr. Griswold will review antecedents (things that may have been the start of a problem), mediators (things that perpetuate a problem) and triggers (things that can abruptly change health status) to further investigate root causes.

  • Dr. Griswold will perform a Functional Medicine examination, which looks for signs of such things as nutrient deficiency.

  • If you also are In need of Chiropractic care, a Chiropractic examination can also be performed as part of your Functional Medicine exam.

  • You will receive an invitation to Fullscript, where you can order discounted supplements with confidence that they have good manufacturing practices.

  • Dr. Griswold will listen to your wishes and goals for your health journey and put all of this information into an actionable, personalized treatment plan.

  • There may be also be recommendations for standard or specialized lab testing.  Functional Medicine  doctors often ordered additional  tests that can be done through Standard lab testing.   Specialized lab testing, diagnostics or referral to an appropriate specialist may also be recommended..  

 

Here are some examples of Specialty tests:

  • Gut Health Assessments such as GI effects that can determine imbalances in the bacteria, immune deficiency, “leaky gut,” the health of the microbiome, the presence of yeast, parasites, pathogens, markers of inflammation, digestive enzymes, and a number of other markers.

  • Hormone Testing such as the Dutch or Mira which can give a better hormonal picture than a “snapshot” from a standard blood test.

  • Nutritional evaluations that can determine deficiencies of nutrients or sensitivities to foods that could be contributing to symptoms. Complete nutrient and mineral deficiency profiles can be obtained to fine tune your exact supplemental needs.

  • Genetic testing to look for underlying variations in your genetic profile that may be contributing to your conditions.

  • Testing for heavy metal, mold and advanced testing for Lymes.
